As the academic publishing landscape continues to evolve, researchers are navigating not only the demands of rigorous scholarship, but also the growing influence of artificial intelligence and increasing expectations around publication ethics.
MDPI’s Academic Publishing Workshop “Academic Publishing at a Crossroads: AI and Ethics” at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia on 29 April 2026 will bring these topics into focus through a practical, in-person session developed as an internal workshop in collaboration with the university.
Led by Regional Engagement Editor Dr. Barnaby Crook, the workshop will closely examine how AI is reshaping research and publishing workflows, while also addressing key ethical considerations and offering guidance on avoiding common pitfalls in scholarly communication. The workshop will conclude with insights into the peer review process from a publisher’s perspective, followed by an open Q&A.
Attendees can expect a concise yet comprehensive discussion covering:
• AI in academic publishing;
• Publication ethics for authors;
• Navigating peer review effectively.
Date: 29 April 2026
Time: 12:00–13:00 EDT
We look forward to engaging with the Jefferson research community and continuing important conversations on research integrity and innovation in scholarly publishing!
