As a Silver Sponsor of the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) 48th Annual Meeting, MDPI welcomed the opportunity to engage with the scholarly communications community on some of the most pressing topics and trends facing the publishing industry today.
Bringing together professionals from across publishing, libraries, technology, and research, the event united the wider scholarly communications community in open exchange around key topics including artificial intelligence, research integrity, and peer review, all central to how the industry is evolving in real time and where it is heading next.
It was a pleasure to connect with colleagues across the community in this context and take part in conversations that were both thoughtful and forward-looking, reflecting an industry actively shaping its next chapter collectively.
About the Event
Held from 27–29 May 2026 at the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center in Chula Vista, California, the SSP 48th Annual Meeting brought together a diverse international audience committed to advancing scholarly communication.
Under the theme "Navigating the Paradox: Adaptation, Innovation, and Collaboration in 2026," the conference explored how the scholarly publishing community is responding to a rapidly evolving landscape shaped by artificial intelligence, research integrity considerations, and changing stakeholder expectations.

Throughout the conference, MDPI representatives welcomed attendees at Booth #110, where we had the opportunity to discuss our latest open access initiatives, institutional partnerships, and editorial developments with members of the scholarly publishing community.

Poster Session & Dessert Break
Silver Sponsor participation in the poster session offered the opportunity to engage with researchers presenting their latest work, connect with industry professionals, and explore emerging research and innovative ideas throughout the event in a visually engaging way and meaningful manner. The poster highlighted MDPI’s approach to collaborating with academic societies and developing publication models that continue to evolve with the needs of the research community.

Conversations addressed a range of timely topics, including the integration of generative AI into publishing workflows, the future of peer review, research integrity, and strategies for navigating financial and operational challenges facing the scholarly communications ecosystem.
